Which Pillow for Neck Pain?

I find that many patients are confused with the variety of orthopaedic pillows on the market. There can be so many shapes and sizes. So for those suffering neck pain and headaches, Dr Emma Biddell (Doctor of Chiropractic) from The Fenchurch Chiropractic Clinic has made a list of the best reviewed pillows on the market.

The Cervical Pillow

The cervical pillow has a thicker "frame" around a sunken square in the middle.

The Traditional Orthopaedic Pillow

The small curvature fits snuggly above the shoulder supporting the neck. These are hugely popular. However be careful of some of the cheaper brands which can be too solid and uncomfortable. There is the option of foam or memory foam. My preference is memory foam, with temper being the supreme brand.

The Air Pillow

Some patients find that the synthetic fibres can be quite hot. These pillows claim to help these problems.

Water Pillow

The water pillow alters width, so depending on your size, it should fit everybody. Dr Emma Biddell (Doctor of Chiropractic) recommends a pillow that is the width between your ear and shoulder for best alignment.

Many Chiropractic patients have found benefit from these pillows for neck pain and headaches.
